4/17 on this date in 1937 Sudan Interior Mission missionaries were forced to leave Ethiopia.  Soldiers from Mussolini’s army were beginning to occupy the country.  SIM left behind a small band (48 members), a church, made up of Wallamo tribes people (previous devil-worshippers).  The believers faced severe persecution from the Italian troops but stayed true – and grew. SIM missionaries came back (July 1943) to a wonderful, God-blessed surprise – a Christian community of some 18,000 souls.
