This left the country boy three months to “sucker corn” (pulling off shoots of lesser height), help with hay making, do other rural chores (I was, at times, Mom’s “running water,”) and roam the woods or follow the creek’s winding banks, etc. And sleep in some; during the school year I boarded the bus at 7:10 AM (first one on, last one off). Summers were wonderful.
