Thomas Paine died this date, 6/8/1809, wrote Age of Reason, Common Sense at age 72.

The following give insights into the less than desirable views of Paine.

The world is my country, all mankind are my brethren, and to do good is my religion.

“The christian religion is a parody on the worship of the Sun, in which they put a man whom they call Christ, in the place of the Sun, and pay him the same adoration which was originally paid to the Sun.”

“Each of those churches show certain books, which they call revelation, or the word of God. The Jews say, that their word of God was given by God to Moses, face to face; the Christians say, that their word of God came by divine inspiration: and the Turks say, that their word of God (the Koran) was brought by an angel from Heaven. Each of those churches accuse the other of unbelief; and for my own part, I disbelieve them all.”

“All national institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian, or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit.”

“I do not believe in the creed professed by the Jewish church, by the Roman church, by the Greek church, by the Turkish church, by the Protestant church, nor by any church that I know of. My own mind is my own church.”

The following is from the Wedding Song I wrote and sang to them.

Here she comes today up the aisle in white.

She’s lived for this moment a long, long time.

She’s going to marry this man for life.

Here he stands, waiting for her heart.

Waiting to do his manly part;

To Love her as Christ loved the church.

Wonderful story of love;
Tell it to me again;
Wonderful story of love;
Wake the immortal strain!
Angels with rapture announce it,
Shepherds with wonder receive it;
Sinner, O won’t you believe it?

Refrain

Wonderful story of love,
Wonderful! Wonderful!
Wonderful, wonderful story of love.

Wonderful story of love;
Though you are far away;
Wonderful story of love;
Still He doth call today;
Calling from Calvary’s mountain,
Down from the crystal bright fountain,
E’en from the dawn of creation,

Wonderful story of love;
Jesus provides a rest;
Wonderful story of love;
For all the pure and blest,
Rest in those mansions above us,
With those who’ve gone on before us,
Singing the rapturous chorus,

It should interest readers that the “greatest scientific genius the world has ever known” Isaac Newton (1643-1727) actually spent less of his life studying science than theology, writing 1.3 million words on biblical subjects.

“Kings and Chronicles frequently agree with one another in words for many sentences together. Where they agree in sense, there they agree in words also.”

                – Isaac Newton, Observations Upon the Prophecies of Daniel, London: Darby & Browne, chap.1.

“…Giving ear to the Prophets is a fundamental character of the true Church.”

                – Isaac Newton, Observations Upon the Prophecies of Daniel, London: Darby & Browne, chap.1.

“The predictions of things to come relate to the state of the Church in all ages: and amongst the old Prophets, Daniel is most distinct in order of time, and easiest to be understood:”

                – Isaac Newton, Observations Upon the Prophecies of Daniel, London: Darby & Browne, chap.1.

“Daniel was in the greatest credit amongst the Jews, till the reign of the Roman Emperor Hadrian: and to reject his Prophecies, is to reject the Christian religion. For this religion is founded upon his Prophecy concerning the Messiah.”

                – Isaac Newton, Observations Upon the Prophecies of Daniel, London: Darby & Browne, chap.4.

“…all the four Beasts are still alive, tho the dominion of the three first be taken away.”

                – Isaac Newton, Observations Upon the Prophecies of Daniel, London: Darby & Browne, chap.4.

Have you ever felt the power
Of the Pentecostal fire
Burning up all carnal nature,
Cleansing out all base desire,
Going through and through your spirit,
Cleansing all its stain away?
Oh, I’m glad, so glad to tell you
It is for us all today.

Refrain:
It is for us all today,
If we trust and truly pray;
Consecrate to Christ your all,
And upon the Savior call;
Bless God, it is for us all today.

Jesus offers this blest cleansing
Unto all His children dear,
Fully, freely purifying,
Banishing all doubt and fear;
It will help you, O my brother,
When you sing and when you pray;
He is waiting now to give it,
It is for us all today.

Some have thought they could not have it
While they dwell on earth below,
But in this they were mistaken,
For the Bible tells us so;
And the Spirit now is with us,
He can keep us all the way;
Then by faith why not receive it?
It is for us all today.

You may now receive the Spirit
As a sanctifying flame,
If with all your heart you seek Him,
Having faith in Jesus’ name;
On the cross He bought this blessing,
He will never say us nay;
He is waiting now to give it,
Why not claim it, friend, today?
