“Jesus Bids Us Shine” (1868)
Jesus bids us shine
With a pure, clear light,
Like a little candle
Burning in the night.
In this world of darkness
So let us shine—
You in your small corner,
And I in mine.
Jesus bids us shine,
First of all for Him;
Well He sees and knows it,
If our light grows dim.
He looks down from Heaven
To see us shine—
You in your small corner,
And I in mine.
Jesus bids us shine,
Then, for all around;
Many kinds of darkness
In the world are found—
Sin and want and sorrow;
So we must shine—
You in your small corner,
And I in mine.
Susan Bogert Warner died this date (3/17/1885) in Highland Falls, NY. She held Bible classes for cadets at West Point. She (and her sister Anna) were daughters of Henry Warner a New York lawyer who was radically hurt by the 1837 depression. Susan is buried at the United States Military Academy, West Point.
Interesting blog, I’ll try and spread the word.
Greetings from Wordwise Hymns. I know this post is four years old, but it caught my eye this morning because Susan Warner was born on this day in 1819. You can read more about her and her famous sister here…
